WHAT IS TINTYPE BERLIN
Tintype Berlin is a vintage photography project which cultivates the 160 years old antique process of Wet-Plate- Collodion.
It takes people on a trip back in time to the earliest days of photography to experience how portraits were
made in the Victorian era.
THE PHOTOGRAPHS
Tintype Berlin offers hand-crafted silver photographs using the antique recipe: a liquid emulsion called collodion.
It also provides the opportunity to witness the creation process step by step, and the image almost magically
appearing before your eyes. Collodion portraits are made on metal or glass plates and are extremely durable;
they are one-of-a-kind, tangible objects that last generations and are treasured by families as heirlooms.
HOW DOES IT WORK
Tintype photobooth is a fully equipped mobile studio that consists of mega large format wooden camera, lighting, backdrops,
and portable darkroom. It usually fits in a space of around 10 square meters. It requires access to electricity and ideally
access to running water.
Making a single photo takes around 10 minutes from preparation of the plate to development which is a truly magical
moment to witness. It delivers the “WOW” every single time. Afterwards the photo needs to be washed, scanned, varnished
and packaged which is usually done outside of the even and the final product is either delivered or available for pickup.
